Knockgour – 488m, light to middle level
A simple mountain walk, mostly on an easy track with impressive views of the Atlantic and The Kerry Mountains. On the way freshen up in a mountain lake and rewards yourself at the end in the picturesque village of Allihies with a pint of Guinness!
Walking time 4 hours.

Knocknagree – 588m
with Maulin (Málaínn) 621m as an extra option, middle level.
Start in a valley of pure silence and nature. The sound of the river keeps you company as you make your ascent. Impressive rock formation view to Bear Island ( An tOilean Mór), Fastnet and Cape Clear to one side and Kerry Mountains to the other side. This tour has short steep ascents and descents with no track.
Knocknagree on its own – walking time 3.5 hours.
Knocknagree and Maulin together- walking time 4.5 hours.

Hungry Hill (Cnoc Daod) 682m advanced level
This is the highest of the Caha Mountains. The route approaches Hungry Hill over impressive rocky slabs and takes in two remote lakes below Hungry Hills dramatic eastern cliffs. This is a tough climb with plenty of rock and some easy scrambling but it’s great fun. Coomadayallig lake will entice you for a swim before your final descent. For this hike, you will need high walking boots and walking gear.
Walking time 5 hours.

Walking women take part in these activities at their own risk. All walks can be tailor made to suit your level of individual ability. Rates on request.

There are a variety of walks that will suit all levels of walkers and hill walkers, some of them starting right at our door.

We have been hosting walking holidays for women now for many years and work together with Frauen Unterwegs, a German tour company in Berlin. www.frauenunterwegs.de to offer full board walking holidays for women.

Women who want to walk without a guide have the benefit of advice and maps from Rita. She will consider the weather charts for the day of your hike and give you advice on the best direction to go.

To walk and hike on The Beara Way or any of the Irish Mountains you will need to have proper walking gear.

Consider bringing:

  • Waterproof walking boots
  • Waterproof jacket and trousers
  • Sun protection
  • Layered clothes and if possible walking sticks and gaiters
